I’m Joseph Bergdoll, a design director and full-stack developer. Currently, I work at Notion where I support the web presence team. I live in Brooklyn with my family and cats. On the weekends, I like to garden.
From 2019–2024, I built and led the product design and user experience teams at The New Yorker. From 2023–24, I supported product design initiatives for Wired, Vanity Fair as well as Condé Nast Technology’s global Newsletters program. I have never entered the Cartoon Caption Contest.
In other past lives, I ran a boutique design and technology studio called Extended Play and made work for brands and institutions like Sweetgreen, IDEO, the School of Visual Arts, and the Cooper Union. I worked at various agencies before that, designing brands, apps, websites, decks, platforms, wayfinding, etched-glass donor walls, and more websites.
I’m currently studying to achieve my certificate in horticulture from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I hold a bachelors of science in graphic design from The Design School at Arizona State University, and have taught and lectured at The Cooper Union.
