I’m Joseph Bergdoll, a design director who ships things that move the needle.

For the past 10 years, I’ve built products loved and used daily by millions. I assemble teams of diverse, high-skill generalists that nimbly execute across business challenges, and bridge legacy tech toward future north stars.

Currently, I’m a creative lead on the brand team at Notion.

From 2019–2024, I built and led product design and user experience team at The New Yorker. In that time, I guided teams ranging from 4 to 15+ design managers, designers, writers, and researchers. From 2023–24, I guided product design initiatives for WIRED and Vanity Fair (as part of the technology org’s News & Culture group), in addition to Condé Nast Technology’s global Newsletters mission.

Before that, I ran a boutique design and technology studio called Extended Play. We designed and built products for culture and commerce, with clients like Sweetgreen, AIGA New York, the School of Visual Arts, IDEO, numerous luxury e-commerce brands, and independent artists.
