I’m Joseph Bergdoll, a creative director and developer. Lately, I’ve been working at Notion.

From 2019–2024, I built and led the product design and user experience teams at The New Yorker. From 2023–24, I shaped product design for Wired, Vanity Fair as well as Condé Nast newsletters program. I have never entered the Cartoon Caption Contest.

I once ran a boutique design and technology studio called Extended Play that made websites for clients like Sweetgreen, IDEO, the School of Visual Arts, and the Cooper Union. I worked at various agencies before that and made brands, apps, websites, decks, platforms, signage, etched-glass donor walls, books, and more websites.

I’m currently studying to achieve my certificate in horticulture from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I hold a bachelors of science in graphic design from The Design School at Arizona State University. I taught at The Cooper Union and been a returning guest critic at the School of Visual Arts and The New School.

I live in Brooklyn with my family and cats and like to play tennis, garden, and drive Volkswagens.
